Available to CARICOM Nationals who:
  • are registered students  in the Faculty of Science & Technology majoring in Geography or Geology OR;
  • are registered in the Faculty of Humanities & Education majoring in Geography OR;
  • are registered in the Faculty of Engineering majoring in Civil Engineering; 
  • will be entering Level 2 of the B.Sc. degree programme.
Criteria: 
The award will be based on:
  • High academic performance (at least a GPA of 3.0)
Method of Selection: 
Short-listed candidates will be selected by a panel comprising personnel from the  UWI with recommendations made in selecting the final candidates.
Please Note: 
Students who have withdrawn from the programme without good reason and the approval of the Academic Director, or who fail to complete the programme, will be required to repay the award.

The Insurance Association of the Caribbean (IAC) Inc. is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the promotion and growth of the Caribbean Insurance Industry. Its membership is diverse with a large contingent of registered affiliates located throughout the Caribbean, Canada, Europe and the United States that specialise in every field of insurance. The Insurance Association of the Caribbean (IAC) was the “brainchild” of a small group of visionaries (industry leaders from Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Guyana and Barbados) who wanted to prepare the indigenous insurance industry for the future challenges of the remaining century. 

In an effort to encourage tertiary level students to study and pursue careers in insurance, risk management and actuarial science, The Insurance Association of the Caribbean, Inc. is pleased to announce The Insurance Association of the Caribbean Inc. Annual Insurance Scholarship. 

It is our hope that by offering scholarship opportunities, young scholars would be encouraged to take insurance, actuarial science and risk management courses, while receiving the financial support they need to complete their degrees. 

The Scholarship: 

  • US$2000 to go toward tuition fees 
  • A six-week summer internship at an IAC Member Company
 Application Requirements: 
  • A Caribbean National 
  • A graduate or an undergraduate student at one of the three University of the West Indies (UWI) campuses 
  • Good academic standing 
  • A major in insurance, risk management or actuarial science or an interest in pursuing a career in an insurance related field 
  • A completed scholarship application form 
  • A copy of current transcript information 
  • A 750 - 1000 word essay outlining how you were inspired to pursue a career in the insurance industry and your career objectives following graduation 
  • A letter of recommendation

The UWI Regional Endowment Fund Scholarships and Bursaries
The UWI Endowment Fund Scholarships and Bursaries is one of the ways that The University of the West Indies (The UWI) seeks to attract all-round high achievers among the region’s high school students, community and state college graduates and current UWI students.  These scholarships and bursaries are available for study pursuing an undergraduate programme at any of the three physical campuses: Cave Hill, Mona or St Augustine.

Supporting documents:
  • Evidence of leadership positions at school, university and/or within the wider community; community involvement; and co-curricular activities (more than one form may be completed)
  • Two (2) letters of Affidavit – one of which must come from an academic referee attesting to the applicant’s academic ability and potential, character and need; while the other should demonstrate leadership qualities. (Referees must have known the applicant for at least two years; all referees must affix the official stamp of their office/department/organization)
  • Proof of citizenship of one of The UWI contributing countries

Mona Baptist Church Douglas Samuels Memorial Scholarship

Conceived by Mona Baptist Church, and fueled by the hard work of Mrs. Lilly Samuels, Douglas' widow, this scholarship, and the bursaries it has spawned, serve to memorialise his life. The scholarship is for students entering their final year of study, and specialising in Art or Education. This year, the scholarship is in the amount of $150,000. It is open to Jamaican students in local institutions (see wall). Bursaries are for students at the Mona Baptist Church. (More bursary info to come).

The JFM Baking & Pastry Arts Scholarship is open to students who are intent on pursuing the full-time Associate of Science in Baking & Pastry Arts at the University of Technology, Jamaica (UTECH).

Applications are invited from eligible candidates for the Sydney A. Phillips Scholarship for the academic year 2019/2020 tenable at the University of the West Indies, the University of Technology, Northern Caribbean University or other tertiary institution in Jamaica.

ELIGIBILITY
Candidates should:

  • Possess good academic records 
  • Have already been accepted by the institution and will have completed a minimum of one academic year by July 2019 
  • Be a resident of St. Mary 
  • Have attended school in St. Mary to at least CXC level 
  • Be actively involved in community and/or school activities

VALUE OF COURSE
The award is valued at $200,000.00 per annum.

REQUIREMENTS
The successful applicant will be required to serve in Jamaica for a period of three years immediately following completion of their studies.

Scholarship governing rules 

a) Scholarships will be awarded for full time study in any faculty at the UWI Mona campus, beginning in the academic year.
b) Scholarship awarded ONLY for University Grants Committee (UGC) funded programmes. N.B. Please visit Faculty office or website for the list of UGC funded programmes.
c) Renewal of the scholarship is dependent on student’s performance and satisfying of other scholarship conditions.
d) In order for a student to retain his/her scholarship after the academic year he/she must obtain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
e) Students, who after the first year obtained a cumulative GPA ≤ 2.99 but ≥ 2.50 will be eligible for a half scholarship provided all other conditions are met.
f) Students who fall below a cumulative GPA ≤ 2.49 will not be allowed to continue the scholarship.
g) The duration of the scholarship should not exceed 3 years except in the case of disciplines that go beyond three years.
h) The scholarship ONLY covers Semesters I and II with the exception of disciplines with three semesters.
i) The scholarship does not cover expenses related to the re-sit of examination(s). Students are expected to meet the expenses of these activities.
j) Students cannot be employed full-time. N.B. Recipients to note the UWI’s policy on student work.
k) The scholarship covers Tuition ONLY.

Additional scholarship conditions 
a) All scholarship recipients must commit to the completion of 26 service hours per semester for the duration of their scholarship award. The Mona Social Services Limited reserves the right to place the scholar wherever it may deem fit, based on needs.
b) It is MANDATORY for ALL SCHOLARS to attend ALL PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT SESSIONS, planned for them by MSS in each semester. A Scholars package distributed at the beginning of the year will provide details on the planned sessions.
c) Failure to comply with (a) and/or (b) above, may affect future consideration for scholarship.
d) Upon graduation students must be available to the MSS to assist with project implementation(s) in the UWI communities for a period not exceeding two years.
e) Students are required to have a regular course load based on programme of study.

2019 Hardat Sukhdeo MBBS Scholarship

The Hardat Sukhdeo scholarship is being sponsored by the Central Florida Chapter of UWIMAA. This annual award is valued at USD 1,500
